Paleontology

Specimens in a project that uses the Paleontology catalog format show the fossil attribute form. Sex and weight units work the same way in every taxon group; see Measurements.

  • Fossil type: the kind of fossil, such as a body fossil or trace fossil.
  • Sex: select from the configured specimen-sex vocabulary.
  • Ontogenetic stage: the developmental stage of the individual.
  • Weight: the specimen weight, with a selectable unit.
  • Specimen description: a free-text description of the specimen.
  • Remarks: additional notes.

Paleontology projects replace the site habitat form with depositional environment fields: Depositional Environment Type, Depositional Environment Subtype, Standard Preservation Type, and Comments on sedimentology and paleoenvironment. See Sites.
