Import a taxon list

Import taxa from CSV (.csv), TSV (.tsv), Excel (.xlsx), or NAHPU taxon QR codes.

  1. Prepare .xlsx, .csv, or .tsv data with the classification fields through the intended rank. A species list can omit taxon rank, kingdom, phylum, and class when all rows share a supported class; keep order, family, genus, and specific epithet.
  2. Open Taxon Registry, select Add taxon, and switch to Import.
  3. Choose the file and review the detected column mapping.
  4. If no Class column is mapped, use Select the class shared by all rows to choose the supported class shared by all rows. If the class is not listed or the file contains multiple classes, include Taxon rank, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, and all columns through the selected rank, with required values.
  5. Correct unmapped columns or use Advanced options when the delimiter was not detected.
  6. Select Review taxa, check the preview, and import the selected taxa before recording specimens.
  1. Open Taxon RegistryAdd taxonImportScan QR.
  2. Choose Single taxon for one code, or Multiple taxa to scan several codes while the camera stays open.
  3. Scan codes displayed by another NAHPU Taxon Registry. For multiple taxa, select Done when finished.
  4. Review and import the selected taxa. Existing taxa are disabled and never overwritten. No data is saved until you confirm.

Cancelling keeps the previous import. Completing a scan session replaces it. QR imports need no column mapping or class selection; use the camera, not image files or pasted text.

Check the registered ranks and names after import. Missing ranks may be inferred as species or subspecies only when the required classification is complete.
