Catalog a specimen with a verified identifier, identification, and collecting event.
- Confirm the catalog format in
Settingsand make sure the needed personnel, taxon, and collecting event are available. - Open Specimen Records and select
+. Verify the Field ID against the physical label. - Assign Cataloger, Preparator, and Determiner according to their work. Select the taxon and
ID Confidence; use a family or genus if a species identification is not supported. - Select the collecting event, then review capture date, time, method, collector, and coordinate. Changing the event clears method, collector, and coordinate but retains capture date and time.
- Enter observed condition, measurements in the displayed units, biological attributes, and relevant custom fields. Leave unmeasured values empty.
- Fields update as you edit. Review validation errors and reopen the record to check the identifier and relationships before moving to the next specimen.
