Add a specimen record

Catalog a specimen with a verified identifier, identification, and collecting event.

Steps

1. Confirm the catalog format in Settings and make sure the needed personnel, taxon, and collecting event are available.
2. Open Specimen Records and select +. Verify the Field ID against the physical label.
3. Assign Cataloger, Preparator, and Determiner according to their work. Select the taxon and ID Confidence; use a family or genus if a species identification is not supported.
4. Select the collecting event, then review capture date, time, method, collector, and coordinate. Changing the event clears method, collector, and coordinate but retains capture date and time.
5. Enter observed condition, measurements in the displayed units, biological attributes, and relevant custom fields. Leave unmeasured values empty.
6. Fields update as you edit. Review validation errors and reopen the record to check the identifier and relationships before moving to the next specimen.
