Specimen Curation

Specimen curation is a project tool for checking physical material against its records after collecting. It writes curation fields to many records in one pass, so you don't have to open each specimen form. The tool is in beta.

Open a project and select Curation in the tool dock on the project dashboard. The dock shows it by default. If you removed it, select Edit list in the dock and turn Curation back on.

The mode selector at the top of the screen picks what you curate. Only one mode is available for now:

  • Tissue curation: scan specimen part tubes, and parasite tubes if you choose, into storage boxes. Each tube gets a museum code and the next free cell as its storage location.

Curation writes to the same fields you would edit in the specimen form. Tissue curation writes Museum permanent or Museum loan and Storage location on a part or parasite. The values show on the record, in the data table, and in every export.

Each change is saved when it is made. The session log lists what this visit changed, and Undo reverts the most recent change, including any value it replaced. Closing the screen ends the session. Changes stay saved, but the log and undo history are cleared.

Back up the database before curating a large collection. See Backup database.
