Add specimen parts and parasites

Document derived material and parasite records connected to a specimen.

Steps

1. Open the specimen and select Add in Specimen Parts or Parasite records.
2. For a part, record material type, identifiers, preparation or treatment, preparator, and remarks.
3. For a parasite, record the observed taxon or category, anatomical location, collector, collection method, and preservation. NAHPU fills the collector with the host's preparator; change it if someone else swept or necropsied the host. Add the determiner, date determined, and determination method when the parasite is identified, which is often later and by a specialist.
4. For a fish lot with recorded individuals, use Individuals to link the part or parasite to the fish it came from.
5. Use the configured controlled vocabularies where available.
6. Check that every identifier matches its physical label or container.

Review identifiers, dates, treatments, and storage after copying a part. A blank parasite record does not document an examination with no parasites found.
