Setting up specimen records
Section titled “Setting up specimen records”The NAHPU default lists for Specimen parts and Treatments are limited and do not include all possible options. If this is your first NAHPU project, we recommend setting up the entries first. You can do this by going to the settings:
Navigate to the dashboard.
Tab/click the humburger menu in the top left corner.
Select
Settings.Select
Specimens.Add
Tissue ID(optional).Some museums have separate tissue numbers for the same specimen. You can setup the prefix and the number here. It will auto increment each time you add a new tissue number.
Add
Specimen part types.Add all the possibilities. You can have more than what you will collect.
Add
TreatmentsYou can do it in a similar manner as the
Specimen part types.
Adding a new specimen record
Section titled “Adding a new specimen record”Navigate to the specimen page using the bottom navigation bar.
Click the
+button to add a new specimen record.You can also use the tree dot menu icon and tap on
Create site.Select
Cataloger.This is the person that responsible for cataloging this specimen in the field.
Select
Preparator.The app automatically input the same personel as the cataloger. If a different person prepare the specimen, you should update the field with the person name.
Select
Species.Start typing, the field will show the closest species matching the name. Tab/click on the name of the species. The app will also auto populate the
Taxonomypanel based on selected species.Select
ID confidence.This tells the users reading the data about how confident you are about the species identification. It also helps the museum curators/collection manager to prioritize which specimens needed careful look to check the identification.

Prep. dateandPrep. time.
Collecting Records

Section titled “Measurements”Select the tab below to view measurement options for each taxonomic group.
Total length (mm): the total length of the specimen including from to tip of the nose to the tip of the tail.Tail length (mm): the length of the tail from the base to the tip.Head and body length (mm): Auto calculated from theTotal length (mm) - Tail length (mm).Tail/HB lengthpercentage: Auto calculated from theTail length (mm) / Head and body length (mm).Hind foot length (mm): the length of the hind foot from the base to the tip of the claw.
